Our goal is that Club members will adopt a healthy diet, practice healthy lifestyle choices and make a lifelong commitment to fitness. Club members experience the healthy and correct way to eat and exercise daily. Programs educate students about fitness, nutrition and smart decisions. Club members are getting outside, getting active and feeling better about themselves.

With growing concerns about the health of Americans, particularly in children, obesity is one of the greatest public health challenges of our time. In fact, obesity rates in children have doubled, and in teens, the numbers have tripled over the last 20 years. Louisiana is one of the most obese states in the United States as almost one in three young people are overweight and one in four youth are obese. Poor diets and inactivity are the primary reasons for the obesity epidemic.

We have to do our part to keep our kids healthy and active. The most effective way to prevent obesity is through nutrition education that teaches healthy eating and promotes physical activity. In fact, a lifestyle that includes nutrition and physical activity intervention reduces the risk of developing diabetes by 60 percent. The goal of the program is to have students gain knowledge, while making real changes in their behavior and health practices. The students surveyed showed a 55 percent improvement in knowledge they have gained about nutrition and health.
