The Summer of 2016 was a great success for the Boys & Girls Clubs. More than 640 children and youth particpated in the Summer Enrichment Program.
According to a study from the University of Missouri, during the summer many kids forget some of what they've learned; and, by the end of summer, they lose "over two and one-half months of grade-level equivalency." Low-income children and youth experience greater summer learning losses than their higher income peers.
In the summer of 2016 Boys & Girls Club tested its 3rd grade members using a national norms reading assessment and diagnostic evaluation by Pearson. Third grade Club members showed a four month growth in reading during the Club's six week.
