Boys & Girls Club held its annual Girls @ the Table Celebratory Luncheon on Friday, April 20 at the City Club of Baton Rouge. The luncheon is an opportunity to celebrate the Club members who have completed the SMARTGirls development program and allow the Club members to meet and socialize with successful business women from throughout the Baton Rouge Community. Mayor/President Sharon Weston Broome spoke at the attendees at the luncheon. The SMARTGirls Program offers guidance toward healthy attitudes and lifestyles, eating right, staying fit, getting good health care, and more. Encouraging young women to have healthy attitudes and lifestyles, SMARTGirls helps them reach their full potential. Through dynamic sessions, group activities, field trips, and mentoring opportunities with adult women, Club girls enjoy the opportunity to build skills for eating right, staying physically fit, getting good health care, and developing relationships. “Being a girl is cool, but it is not always easy,” said Sharon Truxillo, 2018 Event Committee Chair. “The Boys and Girls Club’s Girls at the Table luncheon celebrates female club members who are aspiring to reach their full potential by focusing on important goals such as self-respect, staying fit and developing positive relationships. It’s an honor to be involved with the program and support such wonderful young ladies.” The 2018 Girls at the Table Committee Includes Sharon Truxillo, Event Chair, Chelsey Laborde Blankenship, Susie Furr, Lani Gholston, Victoria Griffin, Gail Grover, Erin Kenny, Pat Minor, Mendi Robinson, and Teri Thomas.
